(Washington DC) - Pete Hegseth, executive director of the nonpartisan veterans advocacy group Vets for Freedom, slammed an ad by the liberal pro-Democrat group VoteVets against Denny Rehberg in the Montana Senate race.

"This is the kind of cynical attack ad that is typical of VoteVets," Hegseth, Iraq and Afghanistan war veteran, said. "While it looks slick, the ad is dishonest and barely based on facts."

The ad accuses Denny Rehberg of voting against additional funding prosthetic research and funding to help wounded vets. It cites a minor procedural vote but ignores the facts of the entire bill, which passed the House on a bipartisan 407-12 vote.

The bill in question-FY2103 Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations Bill-dedicated over half a billion dollars to medical and prosthetic research. It also increased funding for mental health services, PTSD research and homeless veterans programs.

"Whether it's fighting for their promised pensions, increased funding for medical research, or against increases to their healthcare costs, Denny Rehberg has been a strong advocate for warfighters in Montana and across the country," Hegseth said. "This is an important issue where Democrats and Republicans find common ground. For VoteVets to use wounded vets to turn this into an election-year attack is disgraceful."
